About the writers of the units of work
Jennifer Asha (Units of work for the Picture books)
Jennifer Asha is a literacy educator with a passion for helping children become literate in technologically and visually rich environments. She works in schools to support teachers in taking on the Australian Curriculum: English and to promote the use of quality literature to teach all aspects of literacy. Jennifer teaches at the Australian Catholic University and University of Sydney in a variety of literacy teaching units. She wrote the units for the Teachers' Guide to the Children's Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Awards, Picture Book category 2012-2019 and is the presenter and moderator of face-to-face and online courses for PETAA.
Helen Cozmescu (Units of work for Younger Readers books)
Helen Cozmescu has worked as an educator and consultant, across primary, secondary and tertiary settings. In these roles, she has been able to share the love of language, literacy and literature with students, pre-service teachers and teachers. Helen is currently working as a literacy leader, at a primary school in Melbourne's west, and teaching language and literacy, at the University of Melbourne. Her main area of interest is promoting literacy as empowerment. Helen was involved in writing for past PETAA's past CBCA Guides. She has authored a unit of work for PETAA's Literature Singles and was a writer for the Lest We Forget units. Helen was one of the contributing authors for the online professional resource for teachers The Literacy Teaching Toolkit.
Margo Daly (units of work for Older Readers)
Margo Daly is a high school English teacher working in regional NSW. She is the author of four Junior Secondary units for Global Words: English for a Global Education, and has written units for CBCA guides and for PETAA’s Literature singles. She has a BA (Communications) from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), majoring in Literary Theory and Writing, an MA (Writing) from Sheffield Hallam University (UK) and a Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary English) at Charles Sturt University. Margo has taught narrative writing and creative non-fiction at UTS and travel writing and creative writing at the University of Sydney, Centre for Continuing Education and at the NSW Writers’ Centre. She has taught creative writing in the community, at schools and for home school groups. Margo has published short stories, personal essays and travel writing. She is the co-editor of Wild Ways: New Stories about Women on the Road and Gas and Air: Tales of Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond.
Amanda Nicholls (Units of work for Early Childhood books)
Amanda Nicholls is a classroom teacher at an inner-city primary school in Melbourne. After working for 15 years in the IT industry, she returned to study primary teaching, graduating with distinction from Deakin University in 2010. Her major elective stream was in children’s literature, and in 2009 was one of the first undergraduates to present a paper at the ACLAR (Australasian Children’s Literature Association for Research) conference. She has written units for the Early Childhood category for 7 years. Amanda loves using quality picture books as a source of rich teaching and language experiences across the curriculum, and fostering a love of reading and books with her students..
Amanda Worlley (Units of work for Information books)
Amanda Worlley is a teacher librarian who is passionate about using quality children’s literature for teaching and learning. In her current role as Head of ICT (Pedagogy) she promotes her special interest in multiliteracies and using information and communication technologies (ICTs). Amanda wrote the Year 4 unit for the English for the Australian Curriculum website; was a writer for PETAA's Lest We Forget, ANZAC project; written units of work for the Reading Australia Project, and has been a writer for PETAA CBCA Guide since 2015.
