Online: A text based approach to teaching phonics
This practical workshop, presented by Dr. Leonie Arthur and Dr. Margery Hertzberg, will focus on strategies to supplement your existing phonics program with authentic texts. Whilst the focus is on students in the early years of school, it is also relevant for students in Early Childhood, Students with English as an additional Language and students with special needs.
The course will demonstrate strategies for planning engaging, culturally responsive teaching and learning sequences that support each student’s development of phonics skills and vocabulary knowledge in a meaningful context. Examples of whole class and small group interactive experiences that enable students to explore and respond to texts, strengthen understandings of letter-sound relationships and use language for a range of purposes will also be included.
This course is self-paced.
