The course will demonstrate strategies for planning engaging, culturally responsive teaching and learning sequences that support each student’s development of phonics skills and vocabulary knowledge in a meaningful context. Examples of whole class and small group interactive experiences that enable students to explore and respond to texts, strengthen understandings of letter-sound relationships and use language for a range of purposes will also be included.

Accreditation for NSW teachers: Completing A text-based approach to teaching phonics before 4 February 2022 under NESA’s interim arrangements will contribute three hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW curriculum addressing standards 1.3.2, 1.4.2, 1.5.2, 2.5.2, 3.2.2, 5.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
