Online: A text based approach to teaching phonics
This practical workshop, presented by Dr. Leonie Arthur and Dr. Margery Hertzberg, will focus on the use of authentic texts to teach phonics in the early years of school.

The course will demonstrate strategies for planning engaging, culturally responsive teaching and learning sequences that support each student’s development of phonics skills and vocabulary knowledge in a meaningful context. Examples of whole class and small group interactive experiences that enable students to explore and respond to texts, strengthen understandings of letter-sound relationships and use language for a range of purposes will also be included.

Completing
this workshop will contribute 3 hours of online PD addressing 1.3.2,

Accreditation for NSW teachers: Completing A text-based approach to teaching phonics before 31 July 2021 under NESA’s interim arrangements will contribute 3 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW curriculum addressing standards 1.3.2, 1.4.2, 1.5.2, 2.5.2, 3.2.2, 5.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
