Part 2 Focuses on reading and is the second session in this series. Part 1 is on play and part three is on writing.
Most Kindergarten children arrive on their first day at school thinking that they’ll learn how to read…so, let’s send them home on that first day as enthusiastic readers. This part will explore how we can help children think of themselves as readers right from the start. We’ll look at what we need to teach them and how they best learn. We’ll focus on routines and activities that support children’s literacy learning and that also encourage teachers to become kid-watchers. This is essential if we want to offer kids what they need, rather than simply what an external program suggests.

This course is self-paced.

Completing Part 2 of this trilogy contributes approximately 2 hours of online learning addressing 2.5.2, 3.2.2 and 3.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
