PETAA Resources Pathway: Teaching writing for purpose

This series of teaching writing for purpose (an exploration of genre) staff meeting professional learning sessions guides school leaders in how to explicitly teach writing for purpose in the primary classroom, exploring a range of genres and text types and investigating the move from modelled, to shared to independent writing.

Each of the 6 staff meetings has a different focus, and includes the specific PETAA resources (e.g. a conference video presentation, or PETAA Paper) and activities for Instructional Leaders, Curriculum Leaders, Leader of Pedagogy or School Leaders to guide their staff through. Included in this Teaching writing for purpose pathway are staff sessions on:

  1. What do we mean by genre and writing for purpose?
  2. Unpacking the teaching and learning cycle in relation to teaching  writing for purpose (Part 1)
  3. Unpacking the teaching and learning cycle in relation to teaching  writing for purpose (Part 2)
  4. Teaching the writing of imaginative text genres
  5. Teaching the writing of informative text genres
  6. Teaching the writing of persuasive text genres
