Supporting Struggling Readers: Years 5-10
Presented by Dr KAYE LOWE   This workshop is a practical examination of the reading process and demonstrates strategies that support older readers to comprehend texts and develop a love of reading. It provides evidence-based strategies that eliminate the stress and shame too often experienced by struggling readers. The workshop is about motivating disinterested students to engage with reading and writing. It also examines spelling and strategies to support improvement. Addressing the needs of struggling readers and writers while at the same time finding ways to inspire them in the classroom is the focus. This workshop incorporates the syllabus as it relates to the literacy strand and addresses the use of literature as a key component of literacy teaching. Australian Curriculum English - The content covered relates specifically to the Australian Curriculum because it is a pivotal document in determining and catering for the needs of students in literacy.
