Oral Language

The relationship between oral language and broader literacy development has been well established. It is through interaction that communication with others begins, and oral language is fundamental to developing reading and writing skills.
Effective oral language skills are explicitly taught in all subject areas and throughout the primary years. Learners begin in the early years with experiences of story telling and proceed to develop their oral repertoires further through the learning areas, include the development of subject specific vocabulary, and speaking for an increasing range of purposes and audiences.
