PP222: Teaching the language of climate change science...
Louise Kelly and Michael Cannavan are Year 6/7 teachers at Cowandilla Primary School in inner suburban Adelaide. For several years they have combined their two Year 6/7 classes for most lessons, each taking responsibility for different parts of the curriculum, building on each other’s strengths, and reflecting together on the effectiveness of their teaching.

In this PETAA Paper, Michael provides an account of a language-focused Science topic on the greenhouse gas effect in a very enthusiastic, lively, and complex class. Louise follows by explaining some of the theoretical understandings about language and pedagogy that underpin teaching and learning in their class.
