Outdoor learning — Literacy through nature and story

Presented by Dr Amanda Lloyd.  Developing literacy through nature and story play, provides teachers with an opportunity engage with English curriculum activities. The course is completed in an outdoor environment and the activities are completed to enable teachers to experience nature pedagogy, within literacy building activities, for themselves. Teaching strategies for outdoor learning will be modelled throughout the course, with the aim that teachers can replicate these in their own settings. There is an introductory facilitated discussion to explore curriculum content, a best practice English outdoors session, collaborative programming activities and a reflection in the form of poetry.

Why participate?

Each activity is scaffolded to ensure teachers can replicate it in their own educational setting and participants are encouraged to record their activities in photographs as a lasting memory of the teaching strategies they have learnt in the course.

Accreditation for NSW teachersCompleting Outdoor learning: Developing literacy through nature and story play before 31 July 2021 under NESA’s interim arrangements will contribute 5 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW curriculum addressing standards 2.3.2, 3.3.2, 4.1.2  from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW

Should planned face to face events have to be cancelled due to changing COVID situations, PETAA will endeavour to offer the same course online either via live webinar at the same time or in a recorded format on our LearnBook platform which enables participants to complete the course in their own time. Should PETAA be unable to offer a course online, a full refund or PETAA credit towards another course will be provided.
