This course is a focused examination of teaching reading comprehension strategies in a 5-6 classroom, using an example quality mentor text, The Book of Chance by Sue Whiting.  

Learning outcomes:

• Examine a range of strategies to assist student inferential comprehension.
• Explore a practical example and close study The Book of Chance by Sue Whiting, shortlisted for the CBCA book awards.
• Comprehend all aspects of a selected book - text structure, literary devices and vocabulary.

What else do I need to know?

 This is a perfect opportunity for colleagues to work together in a year or stage level. This course is self-paced and unmoderated. All participants have access to materials for 365 days from the date they register. 

How does it work?

• Individuals: upon registration individuals will be sent a link to access the PL on our online learning platform.
• Group booking: Schools interested in making a group booking should email us the number of teachers they wish to enrol in order to receive a quote.
  
  

Completing this workshop will contribute 1 hour (NSW - Elective PL) of online Professional Learning addressing 1.1.2, 1.2.2, 1.5.2, 2.1.2, 2.2.2, 3.2.2 and 4.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
