Thursday 15th June (4 - 6pm) and Thursday 29th June (4-6pm)
This South Australia exclusive workshop explores core texts in HASS - Geography and History, including specific structures and language features. It explores how teachers can use model texts within a teaching and learning cycle to build deep content knowledge and control of important language within texts.
Who should participate?
- Teachers - F-6
- Early-Career / Proficient / Highly Accomplished teachers
- Lead teachers
- EAL/D teachers, Literacy Coordinators or Coaches
Why participate?
- Participate in interactive and group collaborative tasks to plan language-focused literacy strategies using a core-text for a HASS topic they are currently teaching.
- Understand the explicit teaching of grammar through contextualised activities around core texts, modelling practices teachers could use with their students.
- Expectation that participants will implement reading strategies: before during and/or after reading to draw attention to the language and structure of the text - how it is working to build HASS knowledge and understandings.
