CANCELLED Picture Books:a key to unlock
PRESENTED by HELEN ADAM
This course draws on research highlighting best practice approaches to selecting and using literature with the English Curriculum and across the curriculum to enhance children's understandings of themselves, history, society and diversity (Boutte, Hopkins, & Waklatsi, 2008; Gollnick & Chinn, 2006; Morgan, 2009; Rosenblatt, 2005; Sipe, 2002) all of which are emphasized in the cross curriculum priorities and general capabilities of the Australian Curriculum.

The course explores and puts into practice ways of using inclusive literature as a vehicle for the teaching of both written and visual codes and conventions as required in the Australian English curriculum while developing critical literacy and thinking skills related to wider curriculum priorities. As such, the content covers texts for reading, responding and writing as well as for use in all curriculum areas.
A particular focus is placed on selecting inclusive texts at the heart of all curriculum areas that provide equitable benefits for all children and can develop appreciation and understanding of the diversity in our society.
