Visual Literacy

All types of texts, whether a picture book, chapter book, film, interactive media and others have some aspects of visual elements present (e.g. the cover on a chapter book). Visual literacy includes the ability to interpret analytical images, symbols, diagrams, maps and more. Understanding how images and language can expand on each other by adding (or extending), elaborating (restating, specifying, summarising) and enhancing (explaining) information  is an important part of modern literacy, especially with the growth of multimodal texts.
